How to cook shrimp and coconut soup

Delicious kerala prawn soup with natural aromatic flavor. It contains spices that are very spicy and sweet. Fish stock adds more taste to soup with different vegetables. It is simple to prepare within few minutes. Let us see the procedure of making hot and sour soup.


  • Prawns- 500gms(without shells)
  • Red chilli paste- 1 spoon
  • Lemon juice- 2 spoon
  • Coconut milk- 100ml
  • Chopped ginger and garlic- 2 spoons
  • Curry leaves- 2 springs
  • Oil- 1/3 spoon
  • Coriander seeds- 1 spoon
  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Fenugreek seeds- 1/4 spoon
  • Black pepper corns- 1 spoon
  • Fish stock- 300ml
  • Spring onions chopped- 2 spoons


Step 1: Roast pepper corns, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and curry leaves in a pan for  2-5min.

Step 2: Keep them aside till temperature reduces, later grind them into fine powder.

Step 3: Heat oil, add chopped onions, curry leaves, chopped ginger and garlic pieces. stir it well and fry them for 2-3min

Step 4:Add water and cook them, add masala powder and red chilli paste. stir the mixture and cook it for few minutes at low flame.

Step 4: Add fish stocking and boil it for 15min.

Step 5: Add shell removes prawns and cook it becomes thick.

Step 6: Add lime juice and coconut milk and garnish with chopped spring onions.

Step 7: Serve the hot soup.
