How to prepare cucumber / dosakaya chutney

Cucumber is known as dosakaya in telugu. Cucumber has sour taste usually used in preparing vegetarian recipes. Cucumber chutney is a traditional recipe in andhra. It is very spicy recipe with delicious taste.


  • Cucumber pieces- 2 slices
  • Green chillies-6
  • Red chillies-2
  • Asafoetida- pinch
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil- 1/2 cup
  • Turmeric powder- pinch
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Black gram- 2 spoons
  • Tamarind paste- 2 spoons
  • Urad dhal- 1/2 spoon
  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Chopped coriander leaves- 1/2 cup
  • Curry leaves- 1 spring


Step 1: Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, black gram fry them till they split.

Step 2: Add green chillies, red chillies and saute it for 2min.

Step 3: Add asafoetida and fry them well.

Step 4: Off the flame and separate oil from chillies and seeds.

Step 5: Using mixer, grind chillies, black gram and mustard seeds into paste.

Step 6: Later, add tamarind paste, turmeric powder and salt, grind them well.

Step 6:Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds,curry leaves and urad dhal saute it for 2min.

Step 7: Add cucumber pieces and saute it for 5min till they get boiled into half.

 Step 8: Add grinded paste of chillies, black gram etc and mix it well

Step 9: Add chopped coriander leaves for garnishing and serve it in a bowl.

Enjoy the taste of cucumber chutney with hot steamed rice..
