How to cook vada pav at home

Vada pav is a popular street food served hot with green chillies and onion slices. It is simple to make the recipe at home. Let us see the procedure to make this recipe at home.


  • Boiled potatoes- 5 large
  • Asafoetida-pinch
  • Turmeric powder- pinch
  • Chopped coriander leaves- 1/2 cup
  • Lemon juice- 2 spoons
  • Bread loaf – 8
  • Green chilli- 1/2 spoon
  • Garlic paste- 1/2 spoon
  • Oil- 1/4 cup

For batter:

  • Gram flour/ besan flour- 1 1/2 cup
  • Red chilli powder- 1/2 spoon
  • Turmeric powder- 1/4 spoon
  • Soda bicarbonate- pinch
  • Salt to taste


Step 1: Add besan flour, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and soda bicarbonate. mix it well till smooth and set aside for 15-20min.

Step 2: Peel skin of potatoes and boil them, smash potatoes into paste.

Step 3: Heat oil in a pan, add turmeric powder, green chilli paste, garlic paste and smashed potatoes. mix the whole ingredients well and cook it for 5-10min at low flame.

Step 4: Divide the potato mixture into equal parts and make them into balls.

Step 5:Heat oil in kadai , dip potato balls in besan flour and drop in the hot oil.

Step 6: Fry them till it turns into golden color and crispy.

Step 7:Spread some chilli sauce and place the vada pav between bread loaf, press the loaf lightly.

Step 8: Serve the recipe immediately with green chutney or tomato sauce.
