How to prepare raw papaya chutney

Raw papaya chutney, a healthy fruit used for cooking recipes such as chutney , curries etc. Papaya chutney is very soft and spicy with unique flavor. Papaya chutney tastes good and easy to make. Let us see the procedure of making this recipe.


  • Raw papaya- medium
  • Tamarind pulp-1/4 cup
  • Sugar- 1 spoon
  • Salt to taste
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Garlic- 2 pods
  • Oil as needed
  • Mustard seeds- 1/4spoon
  • Chaana dhal- 1 spoon
  • Urad dhal- 1/2 spoon
  • Curry leaves- 1 spring
  • Green chillies- 3 medium
  • Dry red chillies- 2
  • Turmeric powder- pinch


Step 1: Wash raw papaya and peel the skin of it, cut into small pieces.

Step 2: Heat oil in a pan, fry raw papaya pieces by adding pinch of turmeric powder.

Step 3: After 5min add salt, tamarind paste, green chillies, garlic. saute them well at low flame.

Step 4: Off the flame and keep aside till the temperature reduces.

Step 5: Later add whole mixture and grind them into fine paste by adding some water.

Step 6: Heat oil in kadai for tempering, add mustard seeds, urad dal, chaana dal, curry leaves and red chillies. saute seeds till they split and off the flame.

Step 7: Add tempering to the raw papaya chutney.

Step 8: Serve it with hot steamed rice.
