How to make pandu mirapakaya pachadi / red chilli pickle / lal mirch ka achaar

Pandu mirapakaya pachadi, the most popular pickle in andhra. Red chillies pickle is a traditional mouth watering recipe with delicious taste and spicy flavor. Especially Guntur located in andhra pradesh is very popular for such spicy chillies which are used to make pickles of such varieties. It is more attractive in its texture and taste when compared to all other pickles. Red chilli pickle is simple to make at home. It is the perfect combination with hot steamed rice and ghee. This yummy pickle engage people with its smell. These pickles should be preserved in glass jar to stay good for long time. Let us see the procedure of making spicy red chillies pickle.


·         Red chillies- 250gms

·         Tamarind pulp- 150gms

·         Turmeric powder- 1 spoon

·         Salt to taste

·         Garlic pods- 10

·         Hing- pinch

For tempering:

·         Urad dal- 1/2 spoon

·         Oil- 4 spoons

·         Channa dal- 1 spoon

·         Cumin seeds- 1/4 spoon

·         Dry red chillies- 3

·         Mustard seeds- 1/2 spoon

·         Curry leaves- 1 sprig


Step 1: Wash tamarind, remove seeds from it, set aside to soak in water for 30min.

Step 2: Later blend well till you get required amount of pulp from it.

Step 3: Rub red chillies with cotton cloth, blend in a mixer until soft.

Step 4: Serve pickle in a bowl.

Step 5: Add tamarind pulp, salt, turmeric powder and garlic pods. Grind all the ingredients well until it becomes smooth.

Step 6: For tempering, add oil in sauce pan heat till it smokes.

Step 7: Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal, chaana dal, curry leaves and dry red chillies.

Step 8: Saute it well and add tempering to the pickle.

Step 9: Stir it well and serve to eat with hot rice and ghee.



·         Store pickle in a glass jar.

·         Keep pickle away from water.
