How to cook baby onion katta salan

  • Baby onions- 250gms
  • Chopped onions- 1/2 cup
  • Green chilly- 2
  • Turmeric- pinch
  • Chopped coriander- 1/2 bunch
  • Chilli powder- 1 spoon
  • Curry leaves- 1 spring
  • Ginger and garlic paste- 1 spoon
  • Coconut powder- 1 spoon
  • Tamarind juice- 1/4 cup
  • Cumin powder- 1/2 spoon
  • Jaggery- 1/4 cup
  •  Peanuts- 2 spoons
  • Chopped mint leaves- 1/2 bunch
  • Sesame seeds- 1 spoon
  • Salt to taste

For tempering:

  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Methi seeds- 1/4 spoon
  • Dry red chillies- 2
  • Oil


Step 1: Saute peanuts and sesame seeds in a non-stick pan without any oil.

Step 2: Add coconut powder and saute it well.

Step 3: Using mixer make them fine paste by adding some water.

Step 4: For tempering, heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies, methi seeds. saute them well.

Step 5: Add chopped onions, curry leaves and green chillies. fry them till they turn into brown colour.

Step 6: Add ginger and garlic paste, turmeric powder, salt, coriander and cumin powder. stir it well by adding water and cook it for 2min at low flame.

Step 7: Add chopped mint and stir it well.

Step 8: Add jaggery and tamarind juice and cook it till it turn into thick gravy.

Step 9: Add peeled baby onion and cook them at low flame for 10-15min.

Step 10: Garnish with coriander leaves and serve the recipe with roti, chapathi etc.
