Spicy, crispy potato patty / aloo tikki at home

Ingredients for potato tikki / Potato patti recipe

  • Boiled potato (chopped) – 2 cups
  • Bread pieces – 2 big tbsp
  • Oil and required amount of salt – 1 tbsp

For filling

  • Peas – 1/3 cup
  • Ginger (cut into pieces) – 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies – 1 tbsp
  • Coriander – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – ¼ tbsp
  • Oil – 1 tbsp

For serving

  • Yogurt – 1 cup
  • Coriander chutney – ¼ cup and tamarind chutney – ¼ cup

Procedure for potato patty

For filling

Boil the peas & drain the excess water and remove the peel. Take a pan and add oil to heat. Give a medium flame to it. After oil getting hot add the filling ingredients into the vessel and stir them for 2 minutes until they cook. Don’t cook too much if so the ingredients will become dry, let them cook by retaining moisture. After cooking this mixture close the vessel and keep it a side.

Process of making potato patty / aloo tikki / potato tikki

Take boiled potatoes sprinkle some salt and blend the bread pieces and make dough. After making potato dough, divide the dough into 8 equal parts. Take 1 part into hand and make small ball. Now press this dough ball with fingers into flat shape. Apply light oil on them. Now on flat dough add 1 tbsp prepared filling mixture in the middle and fold the corners of the dough and make it a ball. The dough ball is filled with mixture too. So now make the tikki / patty with this dough ball. Press the ball with fingers and make a nice flat shaped tikki.

Follow the same for remaining dough balls.

Take a big pan (for deep fry) on stove and fill the half of the pan with oil. Give a medium flame and let the oil get hot. After oil is hot, put the potato tikkis / potato patty / aloo tikkis in the oil one by one slowly. Make sure there is enough space for each tikki to get fried.

After placing the tikkis / patty in pan add little oil or ghee on the top of tikki / patty. Fry it for 1 minute and turn the other side. Do the same for other side too. Fry the tikkis or patty by turning them on both sides. Fry the tikkis / patty till they turn into light golden brown in color.

Take out the tikki from oil and serve it hot in the plate. Hot hot potato patty is ready to taste now.

Suggestions and reviews

While frying the filling ingredients make sure it doesn’t cook more. Leave the filling mixture light moisture so that the tikkis fragrance wont change.

Take care of tikkis while frying in the oil, make sure the tikkis or pattys doesn’t change into dark color. If so the taste will change.

Serve the potato pattys or potato tikkis when they are hot because the taste will change when they become cold.
