How to make mangai thokku / grated mango pickle

Mangai thokku / grated mango pickle, a mouth watering recipe attracts with its sour taste. It is simple to make with fresh raw mangoes that are available in this particular summer season. Grated mango pickle is a delicious pickle served instantly. Process of preserving grated mango pickle is different from other mango pickles.   • Raw mangoes- 2
  • Salt- to taste
  • Red chilli powder- 3 spoons
  • Fenugreek powder- 1 spoon
  • Oil- 1/4 cup
  • Hing- pinch

For tempering:

  • Urad dal- 1/2 spoon
  • Mustard seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Curry leaves- 2 sprig


Step 1: Wash mangoes and clean it with dry cotton cloth.

Step 2: Peel skin of mangoes and grate flesh of mango.

Step 3: Heat oil in long bottomed kadai, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves and urad dal. saute tempering well.

Step 4: Add grated mango and hing, stir ingredients well.

Step 5: Place a lid, cook the grated mango at low flame for atleast 10-15min.

Step 6: After sometime, oil gets separated from the mangoes mixture.

Step 7: Add salt and red chilli powder, mix it well.

Step 8: Sprinkle fenugreek powder and stir it well.

Step 9: Off the flame and set aside till the temperature reduces.

Step 10: Store pickle in air tight container and preserve it refrigerator.
