How to prepare andhra garlic mango pickle/ allam avakaya

Allam avakaya / garlic mango pickle, is an another popular variety of avakaya. Generally in hot summer every one love to make pickles of different taste and types but this allam avakaya is a popular recipe made with garlic and mango chunks which acquires delicious taste before serving. Andhra is most famous place for all such pickle recipes, as it was the famous for mirchi pickle made at this place are very spicy and hot. Let us see the procedure of making delicious allam avakaya.


  • Mangoes- 3
  • turmeric powder- 1/2 spoon
  • chilli powder- 1 cup
  • salt- 1 cup
  • cumin seeds- 1 spoon
  • mustard seeds- 2 spoons
  • ginger and garlic paste- 1 spoon
  • garlic pods- 10
  • mustard powder- 2 spoons
  • oil- 1 1/2 cup


Step 1: Cut mangoes into 8 chunks for each mango.

Step 2: Take equal amount of ginger and garlic paste.

Step 3: Pour cup of oil in a pan, add urad dhal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds. sauté it well for a minute.

Step 4: Add little fenugreek seeds, garlic pods, turmeric powder and cook them for 2min at low flame.

Step 5: Add ginger and garlic paste and stir it well.

Step 6: On other side, take equal amount of mirchi powder and salt, 2 spoons of mustard powder. stir it well.

Step 7: You can also add roasted fenugreek and cumin seeds powder.

Step 8: Once the mixture comes down completely, off the flame and set aside.

Step 9: Add mango chunks and mix all the ingredients.

Step 10: Store in glass jar and tie cotton cloth over lid, set aside for 2 or 3 days.

Step 11: Let the pickle gets marinated in all the ingredients for 2 days for more taste and flavor.
