How to cook raw papaya fry

A famous south indian recipe, raw papaya fry. Raw papaya is a low fat vegetable fruit with unique taste. It is a good source of vitamins and nutrients. Papaya has lot of health and beauty benefits.


  • Raw papaya- 1( small size)
  • Red chilli powder-pinch
  • Chopped ginger- 1 spoon
  • Hing- 1/2 spoon
  • Turmeric powder- pinch
  • Coriander leaves- 1/4 cup
  • Coriander powder- 1 spoon
  • Garam masala- 1/2 spoon
  • Salt as needed
  • Cumin seeds- 1/2 spoon
  • Mustard seeds- 1/4 spoon
  • Urad dhal- 1/4 spoon
  • Tomato puree- 1 cup
  • Chopped green chilli- 2 spoons
  • Oil- 1/4 cup


Step 1: Peel the skin of raw papaya, wash with fresh water and cut into small pieces.

Step 2: Heat oil in a cooker, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and urad dhal saute them for 1 sec till it splits.

Step 3: Later add turmeric powder, hing powder and mix it well.

Step 4: Add coriander powder, chilli powder and saute it well.

step 5: Add tomato puree and cook it well till oil get seperated from the whole mixture.

Step 6: Later add chopped ginger,salt,  papaya pieces and saute it well.

Step 7: Mix the whole mixture well and add 2 cups of water to it.

Step 8: Cook the recipe till pressure cooker gets 2 whistles, off the flame.

Step 9: Sprinkle garam masala powder and  coriander powder.

Step 10: Garnish the recipe with coriander leaves.

Enjoy the taste of recipe with hot steamed rice..
