Preserving food at home is not difficult, it is important some principles to preserve food in containers and freezers. Safe preservation can be done with proper food safety and sanitation. Let us see some tips for food canning.
Step 1. Preserve food as quickly as possible after picking/ harvest.
Step 2. Before food preservation, soak glass jars in hot water for 5min and rub with cotton cloth to preserve delicious summer foods.
Step 3. It is easy to store food items in refrigerator, mostly we preserve vegetables for fresh look. Store vegetables in plastic bags to avoid dryness in vegetables.
Step 4. High acid foods such as tomato sauces, fruit jams, chutneys etc are processed using hot water for bathing containers before preserving or canning.
Step 5. For frozen foods use appropriate container for freezing such as vaccum packing, flexible bags etc.
Step 6. Dried foods should be stored in cool and dry place. These can be used in within 1year of time.
Step 7. Meat should be marinated with different flavors before preserving in a tight container. use the preserved raw meat within 2days.
Step 8. Preserve the food in refrigerator after temperature(heat) reduces.
Step 9. Squeeze air outside the plastic bag before storing.
Step 10. For canning jars always use metal lid for optimal seal.
